I’m Eric, owner and consultant at large of Finish Your Project LLC.
Years ago, I was sitting on a beach with friends gathered around a fire. One gentleman was talking and sharing all of the ideas he had had through the years and how incredible the ideas were. At first I was excited about his ideas, but then the harsh truth struck me: None of these ideas are finished.
For a moment, I swam in the judgmental nature of it all (just to be honest!). “I can’t believe this guy. Doesn’t he realize it should be embarrassed to talk about all these incomplete projects?”
Harsh truth reared its head again, and this time it ripped into me as this thought erupted inside of me: I’m in my 30’s and I’m on the exact same track as him. Right now, as it stands, I will die with a vast collection of ideas and projects I’ve started that were never completed. Incomplete story ideas. Unfinished songs and writings. Less than completed business ideas to implement. On and on.
That was a key turning around moment for me. Each of us need a turn around moment like that, where we decide “This is important to me and I’m going to make it happen. Period.”
Through the years, I’ve completed tons of things (as we all have) … countless MBA papers (which led to the degree), over 500 talks, countless lesson plans, I.T. projects, finance projects, directed camps, became semi-fluent in Spanish and so on. In some ways I’m proud of those things, but the truth is this: I’ve mostly neglected the projects that to me hold the most meaning. I’m finished doing that. From now on, my ideas are a priority. If I never finish the project, then I cannot sell it, donate it or share it.
My mother does not enjoy writing, although she is great at it! Last summer was a horrific low point in my life…. as in hitting the bottom, and then that bottom fell out! As I was walking through the toxic wastedump of it all, I looked through some things and pulled out something that she finished for us kids… her memoirs. I leaned back in my office chair with the large black cloud over me and I started reading. After a little over half an hour of laughter and tears, physically and spiritually I stood up. I felt brand new and restored. New thoughts emerged, “We make it through things. We are survivors. We press on.” Because of my mother making the decision to FINISH her memoirs and GIVE them to me, I was profoundly encouraged and impacted. I want to give other people moments like that. Do you? Those moments are gifts beyond comparison.
Through FYP, I am able to consult and guide people into actually finishing their projects. No more talk, guilt or procrastination. Enough is enough. A decision is made. A map is created. Steps are taken. Adjustments made… and it happens! Goal achieved!
I’m passionate about showing clients what TO DO with clear action steps, milestone markers and a distinct weekly system of goal execution that brings tangible results. It is both challenging and exciting, while being consistently rewarding.
